Juan Waelder was fortunate to have studied at The Experimental Art School in Santiago, Chile.
An Art School based upon the Bauhaus principles, the teachers were renowned artists Fernando Marcos, Nemesio Antúnez, Luis Guzmán, and Dinora Douchintzky, to name a few. From the Masters, he learned the essence of oil painting, the secrets of clay, and the thousands of nuances that ink can produce in a copper plate engraved with acid.
Juan's philosophy for teaching is to share his knowledge to help everyone to express themselves without interfering in the creative process. Everyone has an inner artist, and his task is to stimulate the imagination of the student leading the way to the creative process.
Once done, a painting can seem to be an easy task. The important thing is to know what to do in front of a blank canvas. And you will learn that in Juan's workshop.
Juan has been teaching sculpture for over a decade, and at La Residencia, he teaches students of all ages how to sculpt while creating a supportive and fun learning environment. For Juan, sculpting is an art form that requires creativity and imagination. And a means to express oneself! His students appreciate his patience and ability to explain things in a way that is easy to understand. But best of all, they all leave with an appreciation for the art of sculpture!
Juan also organizes personalized guided visits to the hotel's Café Miró collection and Sculpture Garden (whose pieces are available for purchase) and the Poet's Walk. And in Palma, to the Joan Miró Foundation, art museums, and art galleries.
